Fed: Solarium users could need ID

Indoor sunbakers may need to carry their ID with them under proposed guidelines prompted
by the health risks associated with solariums.

Standards Australia is seeking public comment on a plan to restrict sunbed use to people
over 18 because of concerns over the effects of exposure to ultraviolet light from solariums.

In developing the draft guidelines, Standards Australia has considered evidence including
a medical studies which show people have more sensitivity to sunlight in puberty.

The guidelines also call for warning notices to be posted near sunbeds giving advice
on maximum exposure times, the compulsory use of protective goggles and other safety measures.
