SA: Ammonium nitrate missing in Adelaide

Three-and-a-half tonnes of ammonium nitrate -- a common ingredient in terrorist bombs
-- have gone missing from an Adelaide warehouse.

The 47 bags of fertiliser were noticed missing late last month during a routine audit
of a transport company.

Assistant Commissioner MADELEINE GLYNN said yesterday the disappearance could be theft
for criminal purposes, but it could also be an administrative error.

She says there's no information of any specific threat and the community shouldn't be alarmed.

However, given recent events around the world, she says police are keen to account
for the material.

Ms GLYNN says the ammonium nitrate was noticed missing during an audit of an un-named
transport company between March the 25th and the 31st.

The bags of the fertiliser have the brand name Nitram on them.

The South Australian government yesterday said it will introduce a licensing system
for ammonium nitrate.
